scroll — the forest reveals itself

Up here the forest is loud and bright. Spider monkeys swing hand over hand, macaws flash red and blue, and nearly every meal the jungle offers starts in these branches. The canopy catches the sun, the rain, and the fruit before anything else gets a turn.
who lives in the light

Below the bright crown the light goes soft and broken. Here, things wait. A jaguar folds along a branch, a boa knots into the shade, and a frog holds dead still.
what waits below the leaves

All the way down, the light is almost gone. One shaft finds the floor. A beetle plows the litter, an agouti buries the seeds it forgets, and mushrooms turn the dead back into soil. Down here, nothing is wasted.
